NINE, David - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Hillsboro – David NINE, 85, one of the oldest residents of this community, died at his home in Water Street here Friday night at midnight following an illness of 5 months. A foot infection caused his death. Mr. Nine was born two miles NW of Hillsboro on March 9, 1846, a son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Gebhart Nine. He was the youngest child in a family of 11 children. He was the last surviving member of his family, 9 brothers and one sister having preceded him in death. The deceased was a member of one of the three pioneer families who settled the community NW of Hillsboro. In addition to the Nine family, the Gebhart and Shade families were the first settlers in that section of Fountain County. Mr. Nine was married to Miss Martha FLEMING 55 years ago. Until he retired more than 25 years ago, he was engaged in farming. Since his retirement, he had made his home in Hillsboro. He was widely known as an old fiddler and up until the last few years never failed to enter a contest held in this section of the state. Mr. Nine is survived by the widow, 3 daughters: Mrs. Lulu Snyder and Mrs. Von Rush and Miss Minerva Nine, all of this place and two sons, William, of this place and Clark of Attica. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Hillsboro Christian Church and will be in charge of Rev. OW McGaughey of Veedersburg. Interment will take place in Rose Hill cemetery here.
